iMetal
Every fan worth their salt acknowledges Sweden as a major Metal powerhouse. While the standard bearers may be still going strong, someday the next generation of the N.W.O.Swedish.H.M. will have to stand up and usurp the throne. Let us kick start the revolution by interviewing IN MOURNING (Opethers pay attention) and introduce the foxy Snowy's Angels of HYSTERICA in our indie spotlight. First though we counter AC/DC's attack on iTunes and open some familiar war wounds of our own.

Metal Up Your Lars
Finally after almost twenty years METALLICA has put out a solid, kick ass record worthy of their old logo. But it doesn't take a Nostradamus to predict that as there were six tell tale signs leading up to the glory of Sept. 12th.
1. Rick Rubin is tapped to produce the new album replacing Bob Rockstar. Immediately following rumors begin to circulate of a return to the band's underground roots.
2. The return of the old logo is announced. So what? This is actually significant as it shows METALLICA 's desire to return to the glory daze.
3. "The Day That Never Comes" is released on an unsuspecting public. Granted not the best choice for the first single but the first taste is a delicious one. It takes criticism for a rather slow start but in terms of song structure and in the chronological order of the album it proves to be the "One" or "Fade To Black" of "Death Magnetic".
4. The band announces that they're taking MACHINEHEAD and LAMB OF GOD as support on their North American tour as opposed linkin park and limp bizkit as they did in the 90s. If there's any merit to the "company you keep" addage this is a definate plus.
5. "My Apocalypse" is released, a real stormer of a track that ends the record on a killer note ala "Dyer's Eve".
6. Terrorizer magazine gives "Death Magnetic" a glowing review. Remember Terrorizer deals with more extreme artists and will be more jaded and cynical to a post 80s METALLICA record than say a Metal Edge which would give an album of Lars "farting on a snare drum" a 10 out of 10.
The final result is an absolute killer of a record.

Metalympics
Shit, we keep forgetting to blog.
Must start soon.
Over the past two weeks all eyes were focused on the Summer Olympics. As the flames of competition are extinguished to signify the end of the Games, we fire the torch back up for our own rendition of The Metal Olympics. On the surface, sports and Metal mix as well as eyeliner at the CARCASS reunion tour, but our fave Metal artists are actually quite steeped in athletic competition...in their own special way. Also we interview a gold medal band in their own right in Canada's SYNASTRY, the musical equivalent of a steroid-jacked 100 meter runner. |

66.6 FM part II
Not that we need a reason, but circumstances dictated an all music episode. But, hey, we’re not gonna just play any old thing. How about some heavyweights like VITAL REMAINS, WARBRINGER and SKINLAB. Some of your favorite bands have members in fresh new projects, and most importantly, we give airplay to Heavy Metal in Baghdad’s ACRASSICAUDA. Crank It Up!!!

Made in the Pit
Basking in the after glow of the recent stop over from one of the greatest ever, IRON MAIDEN, it's appropriate to tackle that very subject. With thirty years to draw upon where in the name of EDDIE does one start. The extensive back catalogue riddled with some of metal's greatest pieces? History making tours? Controversial artwork and lyrics which terrified a nation? All of this meant our longest episode ever, rivaling some of the epics this very topic has produced. UP THE IRONS!!!!!!

Under Dog Overkill
Just by virtue of the fact you're listening to a podcast, your musical taste expands beyond the spoon fed masses. Sifting through your album collection you'll probably stumble on more than a few artists that the Metal Gods should have heaped more gold upon. These are heavy metal underdogs, brilliant pieces of musical work that through no fault of their own slipped through the metal consciousness cracks. There is a reason why some albums are relegated to the bargain bin. This is a fate no Metal album, or artist, should suffer.

Metal's Lasso of Truth
When you've been around the metal world as long as we have it's only natural to develop sort of a Bullcrap Detector when some of your fave artists are venting their frustrations to the media. Even better, super heroine Wonder Woman has an even more instant solution when she wants to get the truth out of a thug - her Lasso Of Truth. Kinky bondage symbolism aside, how awesome would it be to wrap her magic lasso around Dave Mustaine and question him about all these damn line up changes. And to Lars Ulrich...well that list is endless. At Radioactive Metal we want the truth! And we can handle the truth!!!!

Cavalera Conspiracy - "Inflikted"
And then there were three. There is a good chance that all of them will release an album in 2008. Sepultura is scheduled to release an album later this year, Cavalera Conspiracy's "Inflikted" is coming out at the end of March, and Soulfly? The working title "Congo" may come out soon too.
A lot of people have needlessly written Sepultura off since Max left the band, but now without Igor one can only hope that Kisser doesn't resign as the Brazilian metal empire is crumbling down.
I for one am very glad that the bros are once again reunited, too bad it will be at the expense of Sepultura, whom I still enjoy to this day.
The Cavalera reunion isn't glorious, by that I mean there is hardly anything new here, but the album is very solid with elements of classic Sepultura ("Sanctuary", "Dark Ark") mixed with old-school Slayer-esque thrash ("Bloodbrawl", "The Doom of All Fires") sprinkled with some modern thrashcore grooves ("Hex").
I have to admit that the resemblance to early Slayer on this album is quite fascinating and sometimes overwhelming. Something Slayer themselves could not achieve in the last 15 years.
On the downside, the lyrics are often laughable ("i am abomination / i am desecration / i am the ritual killing / i am the voodoo rising ... / fuck art - let's kill / fuck this - let's kill / fuck that - let's kill / fuck them - let's kill" - from the track "Terrorize") and so Max ("loaded with dynamite / i don’t give a fuck ‘cause / everybody die tonight / call me negative / call me what you want / you are nothing / never was…never will" - from the track "Sanctuary"), but there are also that blood-pumping, fist-raising albeit a bit cheesy words to "Nevertrust" ("nevertrust – the fuckers / nevertrust – the bastards / nevertrust – the assholes / nevertrust – the asskissers" etc. you get the point.
Overall I'm impressed, it is currently the most listened to album I ... don't have yet. Yes, I will buy it the day it comes out, for now pre-stolen mp3s gotta do.

Metal Shop Class
If this keeps up we'll just resign ourselves over as an educational podcast as opposed to a music. Last episode we spoke to a college professor and this episode we go to metal shop class with a fellow podcaster Brandon Hire and his show, appropriately called The Metal Shop. We received quite an education as Mr. Hire wowed us with his "techno mumbo-jumbo" and dropped our jaws with his assessment on modern day Metallica.

The Philosopher's Metal
From the onset of this show, we never imagined a genuine bonafide University professor would be making a pit stop into The Pit. Professor Bill Irwin promotes his new book “Metallica and Philosophy” and explains a new way to examine more profoundly the lyrics of the Bay Area legends. Metal has also made numerous appearances in the Guinness Book of World Records proving that old dogs like us can be taught new tricks.
